The pan, tilt, zoom camera, commonly known as the PTZ camera, is the Swiss Army Knife of the remote security monitoring industry. Each of the three primary functions of the PTZ camera are paramount in the hunt to secure court quality evidence.

In the world of security, things move extremely quickly and every second counts. When a suspect is identified on site, it’s assumed that a premeditated crime is in progress, and that the individual is attempting to get in and out as quickly as possible. There is a very small window of opportunity to capture the suspect in high-resolution video before they exit camera view. This is where the PTZ separates itself from other cameras available on the market.
In order to have a better understanding of how the PTZ camera became the quintessential tool to capture criminal activity, it’s important to understand the strengths of its movements, and their effects on security video monitoring.

Pan

Designed to operate like the human head, the ‘Pan’ feature provides our monitoring operators with the ability to move the camera on both its vertical and horizontal axis; up, down, left, and right. ‘Pan’ is an exceptional function that allows operators to “follow” individuals and vehicles and keep them within vision. By nature, PTZ cameras have a greater field of view than static cameras.

Tilt

Just as the function name suggests, ‘Tilt’ allows our monitoring operators to adjust the vertical view of the camera. This functions like a combination of your own human eyes and neck. In order to see something above you, you adjust your neck to look up and focus on an object. Of course, this applies to looking down as well. The ‘Tilt’ function is crucial when zooming in with the PTZ camera because the operator re-centers the camera view to compensate for the shift in image orientation.

Zoom

The most widely recognized function of a PTZ camera, ‘Zoom,’ does exactly as advertised.  Enhanced by our proprietary cellular LTE communications platform, our PTZ cameras drill in to capture court quality evidence in full resolution, with no bandwidth limitations.
What do we mean by court quality evidence? Simple; it’s all in the details. Our monitoring operators zoom in on a subject to capture as many fine details as possible. These details include, but are not limited to, facial features, tattoos, brands and color of clothing, or even paint scratches on vehicles.
