Before the first Earth Day in 1970, there was a growing awareness of environmental issues in the US. While some groups were fighting individually against oil spills, pollution, toxic dumps, pesticides, the loss of wilderness, and wildlife extinction, efforts were not organized. The US Environmental Protection Agency did not even exist. Today, Earth Day has become a global Earth Month. Businesses now strive to protect the environment and preserve precious resources, while still meeting the needs of customers

How Did Earth Month Begin?

The first Earth day was on April 22, 1970. A US Senator from Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson, put together a staff to launch the first event of its kind nationwide. 20 Million Americans took to the the streets and parks to protest 150 years of industrial development that was leaving a growing legacy of human health problems.
The event was such a success, that by the end of 1970, the US had created the Environmental Protection Agency.
By 1990, Earth Day had evolved into Earth Month and become a global event with 200 million participants from 141 countries joining in the initiative. Earth Day 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Today, it is one of the most recognized month-long observances in the world.
Earth Month takes place during April every year. It’s main goal is to create sustainable development and offer climate solutions, reduce carbon footprints and prevent further harm to our planet’s natural resources

Year after year, climate change continues to have major effects on the planet. Now more than ever, sustainability is key to ensuring we leave a clean planet for future generations.  Earth Month is a time to reflect on these issues and how we can become better caretakers of our beautiful planet. At syncroMonitoring, sustainability is a consideration in every technological and security advancement we make — and our Security solutions reflect our commitment to being good stewards of planet Earth.

What technologies do we use to be more sustainable and environmentally conscious?

Solar power continues to be one of the key technologies that many companies utilize as they move into the future, and we have taken solar power to the next level for security.

Our Solar Unit allows sites without available electricity to still take advantage of our robust security solutions. It’s provides  a viable and reliable option with low power consumption, fast battery charging, and extended ‘no sun’ sustainability. There’s no grid power or infrastructure requirement, which means it can be installed in remote and suburban areas alike. Our Solar Units produce zero emissions and have a low carbon footprint, which is essential to environmental sustainability.
The use of reusable and recyclable materials plays a big part in our commitment to sustainability. We take the classic 3-step approach “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” to sustainability by using internal hardwiring that’s reusable and easily interchanged between units, even when the unit is ready to be decommissioned and recycled.
Moreover, we are able to significantly reduce the amount of materials needed to manufacture our units throughout the years, slashing the weight from approximately 53 lbs down to an astonishing 16 lbs.
Our Mobile Security Unit is another system that allows us to deliver on our promise of sustainable security. It utilizes an integrated 3-panel solar system with back-up battery power, making them 100% solar powered and easily deployed within minutes to provide video monitoring for sites that are remote or hard to reach. This makes it ideal for construction sites, events, and other locations with little or no electrical power.
The steps we take not only ensure that our clients’ sites are fully protected, but also help protect the planet by creating a more sustainable future in the security industry.
